Project Monitoring

Time Scheduling - Progress Control - Reporting

Scheduling and progress control enable the project management for orientation and navigation in order to plan all relevant activities methodically and monitor their timely implementation. Besides ordinary solutions we developed a system, which has proven very reliable, particularly in large size projects of high complexity.

Basic information:

● Contracts (customer, underwriter, supplier, etc.)

● Work breakdown structure

● Project calculation

● Detailed discipline schedules

Topology of the schedules:

According to the work packages in the work breakdown structure, further sub-categorization into several levels is made - here is a typical sub-categorization based on the second level - project phases:

·      milestones (contractually, commercially)

·      engineering

·      procurement

·      manufacturing

·      packing, shipping, transport

·      civil works

·      erection & installation

·      Commissioning

During the course of the project the work package is broken down into disciplines (level 3), plant sub areas (level 4), and the like.

Linking of activities:

In the detailed time scheduling, each activity is displayed in context with its predecessor and successor and is linked in logical sequences, which enables the elaboration of the project’s critical path(s).

A critical path is defined by the chain of activities between project start and completion, which shows no more buffer time. In the monitoring progress, special attention is paid to schedule changes on the critical path since each change has the potential of endanger the project completion date.

Weighting:

In order to evaluate the value of activities, they are weighted and transferred into the same structure (Work Breakdown Structure) as used in the time schedule. Thus, the progress evaluation of the activities in the WBS forms the basis for a value-oriented progress report.

Interaction with specialist divisions and external project partners:

All activities in the schedule are assigned to discipline engineers in charge or external partners (detail engineers, suppliers, consortium partners, etc.). PROMAX provides guidelines and instructions and conducts both the detailed scheduling and the progress follow-up with all project partners.

Deviations between BASELINE and ACTUAL progress:

In case of deviations together with the project partner concerned an evaluation takes place, on which basis - if necessary - required corrective measures are developed and acted upon, in order to prevent negative effects to the project’s completion date and/or other subsections of the project.

Report system:

A well structurized and self-explanatory report of the current monthly project status includes baseline vs. actual progress comparison tables, progress curves and sub-reports and provide an appropriate real time, site related decision bases for eventual control measures.
